5 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started Packing

Starting to pack can feel exciting, confusing, and sometimes a bit overwhelming all at once.

There's no real “manual” - most of us are just figuring it out as we go.

Looking back, there are a few things I really wish I'd known from the start. Things that would've saved me time, discomfort, and a lot of second guessing.

So if you’re just starting out (or still figuring things out), this is for you.

1. It’s Not Supposed to Feel Uncomfortable

At first, I thought discomfort was just part of the process.

Constant adjusting, feeling too aware of it, things not sitting right… I assumed that was normal, but it's not.

Packing should feel natural - like something you don’t have to think about all day.

If it feels off, something isn’t working for you (and that’s okay to change).

2. Bigger Doesn’t Mean Better

There's a lot of pressure (spoken or unspoken) to go bigger.

But in reality, bigger often:

  • Feels more noticeable
  • Moves around more
  • Can feel less natural under clothes

A smaller, more realistic shape usually:

  • Feels more comfortable
  • Looks more natural
  • Is easier to wear all day

3. The Right Underwear Changes Everything

This is the main one I wish I knew sooner.

Regular boxers just aren’t made for packing, which is why things shift, move, and need constant adjusting.

Once I switched to underwear designed for packing - specifically Casual Reign packing boxers and packers, everything changed. Packing felt:

  • Secure
  • Comfortable
  • Natural, with no need to constantly adjust

It made packing feel effortless.

4. You Don’t Have to Pack All the Time

There’s no rule that says you have to pack every day.

Some days you might want to, some days you might not - both are completely valid.

Packing is about how you feel, not what you “should” be doing.

5. Confidence Comes From Comfort, Not Just Appearance

At the start, it’s easy to focus on how things look.

But what actually makes the biggest difference is how it feels.

When something is:

  • Comfortable
  • Secure
  • Not constantly on your mind

That’s when confidence naturally follows.

Final Thoughts

Packing is a personal journey - there’s no one “right” way to do it.

It takes a bit of trial and error to find what works for you, and that’s completely normal.

But once you find that comfort, everything else starts to fall into place.
